Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to creating a vibrant Jewish community in northern New Jersey. Federation cares for those in need, deepens engagement in Jewish life, and strengthens the bonds among Jews in northern New Jersey, in Israel, and around the world.
Position Summary:
The Center for Israel Engagement is one of Federation’s main programmatic departments. The Manager is responsible for planning large scale Israel programs that engage various demographics and communities within the northern New Jersey Federation catchment area. A key part of successful programming and relationship building will be meaningful engagement of a committee of lay leaders and coordination with the fundraising team.
The Manager is responsible for planning and executing Israel programming and an Israel Film series, including managing volunteer/lay committees, communicating with outside partners, speakers, and consultant, and arranging for venues. The Manager is also responsible for Federation’s Partnership program between northern New Jersey and Nahariya, Israel, including overseeing the committee, programming, and travel exchanges. The Manager is expected to contribute to the overall success of Federation’s fundraising strategy by creating strategic programming and relationship building in conjunction with fundraising staff.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement impactful Israel programming that connects the northern New Jersey community to, and engages them with, Israel.
- Manage the Partnership program, an initiative connecting northern New Jersey with our Israeli partnership city of Nahariya, including joint programming with the Director of Federation’s Israel Office (located in Nahariya); this includes planning itineraries for trips, supervising and staffing visits to New Jersey by Israelis, and developing impactful programming that builds bridges between our local community and the community in Nahariya.
- Plan and implement an Israel Film series.
- Recruit, manage, and steward lay leadership for the Center for Israel Engagement committee, including subcommittees (such as Partnership and the Israel Film series).
- Develop engaging programs with fundraising components/elements in conjunction with the fundraising department.
- Work collaboratively with fundraising team to ensure continued engagement of current and prospective donors.
- Work with partner organizations to ensure Federation’s impact in the community.
- Participate in staffing organization-wide events.
Qualifications and Skills:
- BA/BS degree.
- 5+ years’ experience in Jewish programming
- 5+ years working with lay leadership and lay committees.
- Knowledge of and passion for Israel; knowledge of Hebrew a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented.
- Experience in program management, including logistics and budget management.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, self-motivation, ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Sense of humor and flexibility.
- Strong personal commitment to the mission of Federation.
- Knowledge of local Jewish community a plus.
- Knowledge of fundraising or working with donors a plus.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and Sundays, as needed.
- Possible travel to Israel in a staff capacity, as needed.
- Experience with and comfort in computer software and data portals, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Salary range is $80,000 - $100,000 depending on experience. Excellent benefit package is available
