SUMMARY:
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing, executing, and managing strategic marketing and communication plans that support the Federation’s mission, elevate community engagement, and drive fundraising and programmatic success. This includes email marketing, social media, website management, direct mail, event promotion, lead generation, and market segmentation, as well as overseeing all aspects of public relations, press releases, media responses, community outreach, and crisis communication.
While the Director of Marketing and Communications reports directly to the CEO, they will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer on the execution, mechanics and tactics of marketing and communications initiatives, while the CEO will provide strategic oversight and direction on organizational messaging and voice.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing Strategy & Execution
- Lead the development and execution of integrated marketing campaigns across multiple channels (email, digital, social, print, events).
- Lead the strategy, design, content development, and ongoing maintenance of the Federation’s website to ensure it is engaging, accessible, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational goals and branding.
- Design and manage email marketing strategy and calendar, including newsletters, announcements, appeals, and automated workflows.
- Design and manage social media content strategy, scheduling, and engagement across platforms.
- Design and manage lead generation efforts and marketing funnel to support fundraising and programmatic goals.
- Conduct audience and market segmentation to tailor messaging and drive engagement.
- Coordinate marketing support for organizational events, including branding, promotion, and onsite support.
- Regularly assess marketing and communication processes and systems, identifying issues and applying improvements and automation.
- Analyze and report on campaign. performance, continuously optimizing for ROI.
PR & Communications Strategy & Execution
- Serve as the primary liaison for media inquiries and maintain positive relationships with local and national media outlets.
- Draft and distribute press releases, public statements, and community announcements.
- Develop and manage a crisis communications plan, including internal and external messaging protocols.
- Create and oversee consistent and mission-aligned messaging across all Federation platforms.
- Support the CEO, COO and leadership team in public appearances, speaking engagements, and key communications.
- Develop and oversee the annual communications calendar.
Management & Leadership
- Recruit, train, supervise and support marketing staff.
- Supervise marketing contractors, and vendors.
- Manage the department’s budget and internal workflows.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to ensure alignment in messaging and campaign effectiveness.
Other
- This job requires occasional attendance at evening and weekend programs and an ability to be “on-call” for urgent, but infrequent, communications needs.
- Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant master’s degree a plus
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in nonprofit or cause-based marketing/communications, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, community, and values is preferred but not required.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000, commensurate with experience.
- Paid time off and Holidays are as follows: Twenty (20) vacation days and Five (5) sick days annually, Nine (9) Federal Holidays, and Jewish holidays, which vary year to year.
- Benefits available include: Medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance coverage, 401(k) and 403(b).
- The Federation offers a supplemental leave program to Washington State’s Paid Family & Medical Leave which makes employee’s salaries “whole” for the duration of the leave approved by the state.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus is required.
