The Arts & Education department at the JCC of Indianapolis engages our diverse JCC membership and the community with top programs of arts, education, and dialogue. We offer the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, the JCC art gallery, special events, and adult enrichment classes.
Position Summary
The Cultural Arts Coordinator will serve as an assistant to the Director of Arts & Education, provide administrative support, and help in organizing, promoting, and implementing cultural arts programs that include the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, JCC Gallery Exhibitions, special events, and adult enrichment classes.
An ideal candidate for this position will be enthusiastic, open-minded, and teachable. This candidate will have the ability to meet new people and convert them into audience members and partners and help us expand our Cultural Arts community at the JCC.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- With Director of Arts & Education, help organize, develop, implement, promote, and assess special programs, classes and art gallery exhibits.
- Manage administrative functions including:
- Track and document attendance, revenues, and deliverables throughout the whole program implementation process;
- Assist Director in managing financial processes like purchase orders, invoices, and book sales;
- Search for and develop new relationships with prospective community partners through social media and creative recruitment efforts;
- Create online event pages on platforms Daxko and Eventbrite, and update online community calendars for event promotion
- Provide technical support in areas such as:
- Facebook
- Instagram
- Square
- A/V
- Microsoft Office & Teams
- With Director of Arts & Education, help organize, develop, promote, and implement all phases of the Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts including:
- Help choose authors, films and programs to offer;
- Expand promotional measures around the city of Indianapolis;
- Help support volunteers in presenting outstanding Festival;
- Help plan and organize book sales, including selecting, ordering, displaying, inventorying, and return of unsold books.
- Other Responsibilities include:
- Staff evening and weekend events;
- Assist Director of Marketing in managing social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram);
- Work with the JCC marketing department to publicize Arts & Education programs, activities, and special events via website, calendars and marketing materials distribution;
- Collaborate with JCC members, community members and other local arts organizations including Jewish agencies to implement Arts & Education arts and special events;
- Proofread emails and marketing/communication materials;
- Help manage volunteers.
Education/Skills/Knowledge/Experience
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to be creative and think outside the box
- Associate’s degree or equivalent related work experience
- 1-2 years of experience working in a team environment
- Computer and internet savvy with a strong proficiency with MS Office, Zoom, & social media such as Facebook and Instagram
- Strong organizational and writing skills
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Experience working special events/events management a plus
- Familiarity with social media and graphic design is a plus
- Experience working with AV equipment a huge plus
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics are representative of a busy, active community center as well as an office setting. The work environment is usually fast-paced with constant stimulation and mobility. This job requires high energy and interaction with JCC members, staff and members of the community. Expectations are that the individual will present a professional appearance, particularly when interacting with members, potential members and the public. Physical demands are primarily limited to walking throughout the facility and grounds, hanging art gallery exhibits (reaching, bending, squatting, lifting) and operating general office equipment. Work schedule is primarily Monday – Friday; however, evenings and weekends will be required depending upon program schedule and special events. Coordinator is able to choose how they schedule their hours.
