Position Summary:
B’nai Jeshurun hosts a wide array of social, charitable and educational programming for a variety of ages for both congregants and the Jewish community in greater Cleveland year-round. The Membership and Programming Director plays a key leadership role in building and sustaining our welcoming, connected, and active synagogue community. The successful candidate will be responsible for growing and supporting our membership base and creating engaging, mission-aligned programs that foster participation across all ages and stages of Jewish life.
Key Responsibilities:
Membership Engagement & Retention
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit new members and retain current ones.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and new members; guide them through the joining process and ensure a warm welcome.
- Maintain and analyze membership data to track engagement trends and identify opportunities.
- Coordinate new member outreach, orientation events, and integration efforts.
- Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to create a culture of hospitality and inclusion.
Programming & Community Engagement
- Design, plan, and oversee synagogue programming including holiday celebrations, cultural events, educational initiatives, and social gatherings.
- Work with clergy, staff, and lay committees to develop innovative programs for diverse demographic groups (families, seniors, teens, singles, etc.).
- Manage program logistics, including scheduling, vendor coordination, setup, communications, and follow-up.
- Evaluate program success through participation data and community feedback.
Communications & Outreach
- Develop promotional materials and coordinate marketing strategies for membership and programming (in collaboration with communications staff or consultants).
- Utilize social media, newsletters, and other tools to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Represent the synagogue at community events and outreach opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; background in nonprofit management, Jewish communal service, event planning, or related fields preferred.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in membership engagement, community building, or program management.
- Passion for Jewish life, values, and community; knowledge of Jewish traditions and holidays.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Proficiency with CRM or membership database systems, and familiarity with communications platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, ShulCloud, etc.) a plus.
- Website operation skills a plus, but not required.
Working Conditions:
- Evening and weekend hours required for programs, holidays, and member engagement.
- On-site presence required, with some flexibility for hybrid work.
- Compensation: $55,000 to $70,000, commensurate with experience.
