Role Overview
Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Hillel at Dartmouth as the Student Life and Dining Coordinator. You will build one-on-one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs around campus, and help inspire students to explore Jewish life—all while leading our vibrant kosher dining program that serves as the heart of our Jewish community. This unique position combines the art of student engagement with the transformative power of hakhnasat orchim, Jewish hospitality, through food, spending one-third of your time planning creative kosher menus, supervising talented student chefs, and ensuring the preparation of 180 delicious meals each week for Shabbat Dinner, Shabbat learning cohorts, and other special occasions.
As the Student Life and Dining Coordinator at Dartmouth Hillel, you'll be at the heart of Jewish life on campus, working closely with a diverse student body to create meaningful experiences that nourish both body and soul. Your culinary leadership will create far-reaching community impact by fostering deep connections among students while preserving Jewish cultural identity through shared meals that transform simple dining into meaningful social experiences. Through mentoring student chefs, you'll develop the next generation of leaders by providing transformative experiences that enhance skills, build confidence, and create lasting networks of support that extend well beyond the kitchen. You'll collaborate with student leaders to develop innovative programs that resonate with Dartmouth's intellectually curious and outdoors-loving community, while ensuring our kosher dining program reflects the same spirit of innovation and excellence. Your role will be crucial in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students interested in exploring their Jewish identity through both engagement and exceptional hospitality.
What You’ll Do
GOALS:
- Engage 150+ new students (including first-years) in Jewish life at Dartmouth each year
- Develop and implement three innovative programs that address the unique needs of Dartmouth's Jewish community each year
- Increase student participation in Hillel leadership positions by 25% over two years
- Successfully manage kosher dining operations serving 180 meals weekly while maintaining exceptional quality and community engagement
- Drive sustainable community growth through relationship-building and innovative programming
INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY GROWTH:
- Act as a catalyst for transformative change in Jewish student life, utilizing design thinking methodologies to create and implement innovative approaches to Jewish engagement on campus.
- Build and cultivate a sustainable community network by creating multiple points of connection that facilitate lasting relationships among students.
- Generate enthusiasm and support for Jewish life programming through strategic community organizing and relationship-building.
- Develop and test novel approaches to help community members connect while analyzing what content and programming generates meaningful engagement.
CULINARY LEADERSHIP & COMMUNITY BUILDING:
- Design and plan weekly kosher menus that celebrate Jewish traditions while appealing to diverse tastes and dietary needs
- Supervise, mentor, and inspire our dedicated team of student chefs who prepare 180 meals weekly, fostering leadership development and creating networks of support
- Oversee Shabbat dinners that bring together students from across Dartmouth's community, creating meaningful social experiences through food
- Coordinate special meal programs for holidays, learning sessions, and campus-wide events
- Integrate culinary experiences with programming to create unique engagement opportunities.
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT & PROGRAMMING:
- Be a resource for Dartmouth students exploring their Jewish identity, providing guidance and support through one-on-one meetings and group discussions
- Collaborate with student leaders and colleagues to reimagine existing programs and create new initiatives, e.g., enhancing Shabbat and holiday experiences and strengthening relationships with Greek life organizations.
- Develop and lead initiatives to empower and motivate Jewish students who are not yet actively involved in Jewish life on campus, helping them find meaningful ways to connect with their peers and with Hillel.
- Connect students with various opportunities within Hillel, including leadership positions, internships, and travel experiences, fostering personal growth and deepening their connection to Jewish culture.
- Partner with stakeholders across campus to promote Hillel's philosophy of engagement and empowerment, advocating for the needs of all Jewish populations served at Dartmouth.
What You’ll Bring to the Job

- Bachelor's degree
- This is an in-person role located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Remote work is not available for this position.
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with diverse student populations
- Creative problem-solving abilities to address unique challenges in Jewish campus life
- Passion for Jewish learning and a commitment to personal growth in Jewish knowledge and practice
- Leadership experience in student organizations or community initiatives
- Interest in food service, menu planning, or culinary arts (experience preferred but not required)
- Strong organizational and communication skills for managing both programming and dining operations
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement community growth strategies
What You’ll Receive
Competitive Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000 to $52,000.
- A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, Life, AD&D, and Long Term Disability (LTD) insurances, Flexible Spending accounts, generous vacation/sick time, and parental leave.
- Reimbursement of reasonable moving expenses up to $2,000.
