Role Overview
Hillel at the University of Georgia (Hillel UGA), the center of Jewish life at the University of Georgia, is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and relationship-driven Engagement Associate to inspire and support students, with a focus on first-year and Jewish Greek life students, as they explore and build their Jewish identities on campus.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at one of the South’s most vibrant universities, home to one of the region’s largest Jewish student populations and one of the most active Greek systems in the country. You’ll often be the first warm, welcoming face students encounter at UGA, and your work will be central to shaping the Jewish student experience.
In this role, you’ll focus on building one-on-one relationships, creating and executing engaging and meaningful programs, and collaborating with Greek life partners and student leaders to expand Hillel UGA’s impact, both inside the Orkin Hillel Center and throughout campus. You'll also contribute to broader engagement efforts, communications, and Shabbat and holiday experiences as a valued member of our collaborative and creative team.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, student-centered environment; someone who loves connecting with others, brings energy and initiative, and has a strong passion for Jewish life, leadership, and community building.
What You’ll Do
- Build meaningful relationships with at least 200 Jewish students each year, with a primary focus on first-year students and those involved in Greek Life.
- Develop and implement creative engagement strategies tailored to Jewish students in fraternities and sororities this includes small group experiences and collaborative events with Greek chapters.
- Partner with first-year students and Greek Life leadership to foster inclusive, vibrant Jewish life across campus. Offer Jewish educational experiences integrated into the freshman pledging process.
- Work with senior staff to support communications efforts, including social media, e-newsletters, and marketing initiatives for spotlighting events and student engagement.
- Help plan and execute cornerstone programs such as Shabbat and holiday celebrations, the Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF), and wellness-focused initiatives.
- Mentor and support student leaders, engagement interns, and fellows in developing their leadership and programmatic skills.
- Represent Hillel UGA at campus-wide events, including tabling, student activity fairs, and Greek recruitment events.
- Provide engaging Sunday brunch programs centered around student-driven discussion topics and Jewish connection.
- Expand tzedek (social justice) efforts across Greek chapters, including the continued success of the annual charity basketball tournament.
- Collaborate on Israel-related programs with Greek Life
- Work in partnership as a part of the Hillel UGA team to execute all programs and initiatives with Hillel UGA and the greater Hillels of Georgia statewide system
A Typical Week Might Include
- Grabbing coffee at Starbucks with a new student to learn about their passions and campus experience.
- Partnering with a fraternity or sorority chair to plan an engaging and meaningful Greek Life Shabbat.
- Texting first-year students to personally invite them to our upcoming bagel brunch.
- Collaborating with a student leader to organize a thoughtful evening exploring the intersection of Judaism and mental health.
- Sharing highlights from last night’s challah bake on Instagram to celebrate community and connection.
- Welcoming students to the Orkin Hillel Center and helping boost attendance for our spirited, student-centered Shabbat dinners.
- Spending Sunday afternoons at the Greek houses.
- Helping facilitate events like the UGA Greek Life Charity Basketball Tournament with Greek Life Leaders.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
- A Bachelor’s degree
- 0–2 years of experience in student engagement, informal education, Jewish life, or a related field.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with a wide range of students.
- Passion for Jewish identity, community, and pluralistic engagement.
- A creative, entrepreneurial mindset with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Greek Life culture and/or a desire to learn and engage effectively with students in these spaces.
- Skills or interest in learning communications tools like Canva, email marketing platforms, and basic website management.
