Principal Responsibilities:
The Stamford JCC is seeking a creative, nurturing, and enthusiastic
Art Instructor to inspire young children through visual arts. This position includes teaching hands-on art classes to preschool students and providing support in select elementary art classes. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, has a strong foundation in art instruction, and enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues and children of varying ages.
Preschool Art Instruction:
- Plan and implement age-appropriate art lessons that support creativity, fine motor development, and self-expression.
- Use a variety of materials and techniques (painting, collage, sculpture, etc.) to engage young learners.
- Integrate themes and literature into art activities.
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, and stimulating art environment.
- Document and distribute completed student work to families regularly.
Grade School Art Support:
- Assist the elementary art teacher with classroom setup, project prep, and student supervision.
- Support individual or small groups of students during lessons.
- Help with cleanup, material organization, and distribution of completed artwork.
- Provide occasional substitute teaching coverage of elementary art classes as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations Performing Arts, Senior Director of Programming, and JCC CEO.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Early Childhood Education, Fine Arts, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- Experience teaching art to preschool and/or early elementary students.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to adapt to various age levels.
- Familiarity with child-centered, process-based art practices and passion for working with young children.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Ability to liaise in a professional manner with parents and students.
Work Schedule:
- Must be available to teach weekday afternoons and early evenings
Salary:
- $55/hr for lead instruction
- $25/hr for assisting
- $20/hr for any required work outside of the classroom such as staff meetings and other programming
