Theatrical Designers: Set, Lighting, Costumes, Props (Seasonal)
Scheck Hillel Community School, a large Orthodox Jewish community school located in sunny North Miami Beach, Florida is currently accepting resumes for experienced Theatrical Designers. This is a seasonal role.
Scheck Hillel Community School, a private school in Aventura FL (Miami area) seeks experienced theatrical designers for its upcoming productions of “Matilda Jr” and “Newsies Jr.” For Matilda we seek a Costume Designer/Costumer and Props Lead; for Newsies we seek a Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Costumer Designer/Costumer, and Props Lead. [Candidates may apply for more than one show and/or role.]
Responsibilities
- Analyze script and conduct research to understand story, themes, characters, settings, style, etc
- Collaborate with the director and team to develop a cohesive look and feel for the show
- Develop specific design ideas that meet the needs of the story, support the Director’s vision, and are achievable with the available resources (time, personnel, infrastructure, budget).
- Identify steps for executing designs, providing relevant documentation, instructions and guidance to relevant adult and student staff
- Participate in execution and realization of designs (involvement varies by role)
Requirements
- Success serving in similar roles in previous productions. Experience working in a youth or educational theatre context, as well as non-traditional spaces, is highly desirable
- Availability for virtual design meetings and on-site work calls, dress rehearsals, and performances (varies by role). Please note that transportation/lodging is not provided
- Absolute reliability/dependability
- Collegial, open-minded and flexible team player
