Position Overview:
The Regional Director, Western States will lead CSS’s work in one of our largest regions. This senior-level position will drive the expansion and strengthening of synagogue security teams, cultivate relationships with new institutions, and act as a leader in the broader Jewish community on volunteer security issues. The Regional Director will work closely with internal departments– including security, training, volunteer operations, and marketing/communications—ensuring the success of both long-standing and newly engaged partners.
Responsibilities
Program Growth & Outreach
- Oversee all CSS programs within the region, including the recruitment of new CSS synagogues for the CSS Synagogue Program (including Entry Point/Usher Greeters), synagogue training, ROAM, and campus initiatives.
- Expand the number of trained CSS Synagogue teams in the region.
- Proactively build relationships with new institutions and communal leaders.
Volunteer & Team Support
- Serve as the primary liaison for Regional Managers, and support the leadership development of Team Managers, and regional volunteers.
- Support local teams with regular communication, promote training opportunities, and attend recognition events.
- Ensure accurate CRM tracking of volunteer engagement and synagogue participation.
Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement
- Represent CSS as a thought leader on volunteer-led security across the Jewish communal ecosystem.
- Participate in community roundtables, leadership networks, and security-related convenings.
- Develop and support regional volunteer leadership.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams on regional communications, marketing campaigns.
- Coordinate with the national training department to schedule and tailor sessions to regional needs.
Donor Relations
- Meet with and cultivate relationships with donors to support CSS initiatives.
Qualifications
- 7-10 years of professional experience in Jewish communal work, community engagement, nonprofit management, or related fields.
- Deep familiarity with LA/California area synagogues, institutions, and leadership networks.
- Experience in volunteer management and grassroots mobilization.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Security experience or familiarity with Jewish community safety is a plus.
Other Considerations:
Must live in the Greater Los Angeles area and must be eligible to work in the US. This position is hybrid, and expected to be in the LA office 1-2 days per week, and should be available for occasional evening and weekend work. Some travel should be expected as needed; generally less than 10%.
Salary range is between $140,000–$160,000.
