Principal Responsibilities:
Primary Goal: To ensure every member, guest, and visitor leaves the "J" feeling just a little better than when they arrived, and to provide impactful leadership for all camp and youth programs.
Position Summary: This role is a dynamic and innovative leader responsible for the comprehensive oversight, development, and implementation of all camp programs and many of our children & youth programs at the "J". These include Summer Camp J, Winter Camp J, the J-Care afterschool program, School Days Out programs, monthly Parents' Night Out, and private piano lessons. This role requires a visible and welcoming presence, strong fiscal management, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a positive and enriching experience for all participants and their families. The Director will play a crucial role in community engagement, staff supervision, and program growth, ensuring alignment with the "J"'s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervision:
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and leadership for the Director of Afterschool Programming and any seasonal leadership
- Design and ensure effective supervision, training, and development for department staff teams
Program Development & Implementation:
- Responsible for the overall development and implementation of innovative and dynamic programs and services offered by the Camp Department. This includes being present and serving as the warm and welcoming "face" of the program.
- Serve as Camp Director, responsible for the development, planning, and implementation of both Summer Camp J and Winter Camp J.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the J-Care afterschool program, School Days Out program, monthly Parents' Night Out, and private piano lessons.
Budget Management:
- Develop and oversee the C&Y and Camp budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
Community Engagement & Retention:
- Responsible for Pre-K engagement and Early Childhood Education (ECE) to kindergarten retention initiatives, which include regular touchpoints with each Pre-K classroom.
- Communicate and interact regularly with parents and children, fostering strong relationships and addressing inquiries.
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Serve in a support and/or leadership role in J-Care and SDO (School's Day Out) as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other JCC departments to ensure seamless program integration and support.
- Staff associated committees and task forces, working closely with department chairs (lay leadership) to advance program goals.
Communication & Relationship Building:
- Collaborate with the Communication Department to develop a comprehensive marketing plan for publicity and recruitment materials for all camp and youth programs.
Administrative & General Responsibilities:
- Will ensure the compliance and maintenance of all State Childcare Licensing, State Department of Developmental Disabilities, and American Camp Association requirements including policies, procedures, records, and documentation
- Attend all required staff meetings.
- Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in education, Recreation Management, Youth Development, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience:
- Experience in camp or youth program management, with at least 2 years in a leadership or directorial role.
- Proven experience in budget development and management.
- Demonstrated success in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Experience supervising and developing staff.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- The ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Salary:
$65,000 - $75,000
