Principal Responsibilities:
Job Summary:
Dynamic and motivated Sports and Recreation Manager to lead our Fitness and Wellness Department at the Katz Jewish Community Center. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing creative sports and recreation programming for children, teens, and adults, serving our members and community effectively. The role requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the changing needs of our programming throughout the year.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the yearly budget for the sports and recreation department.
- Create and execute innovative classes, programs, and special events to enrich our sports and recreation offerings.
- Develop outside business partnerships with organizations that will enhance our programming and special event offerings as it relates to the Sports and Recreation Dept.
- Supervise physical education classes and special programs for the Early Childhood Center (ECC), including vacation and summer camp programs, ensuring hands-on instruction where applicable.
- Oversee all sports leagues, including Jr. Maccabi Basketball, teen, men's basketball leagues, and pickleball leagues and develop future leagues associated with the department.
- Coordinate after-school enrichment classes for preschool and elementary children in collaboration with Just for Kids and ECC departments.
- Maintain regular communication with members and participants regarding Sports and Recreation classes and programs.
- Ensure accurate data entry of all sports and recreation programs into our member management software for seamless registration and payment processing.
- Collaborate with the JCC marketing team to develop and maintain program information for distribution across various channels, including hard copies, advertising products, website, and social media platforms.
- Keep accurate records and statistics related to sports and recreation programs, including game statistics, schedules, attendance, and equipment maintenance.
- Manage facility scheduling and equipment usage, including parties, rentals, and special events, while considering the needs of other departments.
- Supervise the sports and recreation team, including assistant manager, league staff, Pickleball Coordinator, enrichment staff, League Coaches, Mid Atlantic Mini and Junior Games staff and volunteer coaches, and JCC Maccabi(r) Games delegation heads and coaches.
- Serve as our South Jersey Delegation Head and coordinate our participation in regional events such as the Mid Atlantic Mini and Junior Games and the JCC Maccabi Games(r). Participate in and oversee our delegation with attendance at the events as well as athlete recruitment, coach recruitment and training, registration processes, uniforms procurement, and travel arrangements.
- Manage facilities and inventory for the gymnasium, pickleball complex, and outdoor field including ongoing facility maintenance, equipment maintenance and program supplies maintenance.
- Responsible for all equipment inventory as it relates to sports and recreation.
- Participate in departmental operations coverage and daily facility supervision, including serving as Manager on Duty one to two nights per week.
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure ongoing upkeep of sports and recreation equipment and facilities, promptly reporting any issues.
- Assist in promoting the Fitness and Wellness department and fostering integration with other departments within and outside of the organization.
- Cultivate positive relationships with public and private agencies to develop inter-agency programs.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the Fitness and Wellness Director to meet the evolving needs of the department.
- Participate in regularly scheduled department and program staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
- College degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4-7 years of experience in benefits or related field.
Additional Technical Requirements:
- Advanced Level PC skills, Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access
- Ability to perform work that is routine and strong attention to details.
- Knowledge of systems and functionality.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Excellent project management, customer service, organization, and time management skills.

Salary:
$45,000 - $55,000

The Katz JCC houses a double gymnasium, 2 indoor pools, 2 outdoor pools, 2 elevators, 4 group wellness rooms, a state-of-the art fitness center with cardio and strength training equipment, 2 full size gymnasiums, a 16-room early childhood center with an Imaginarium climbing play structure, teen and adult lounges, a kosher cafe, a physical therapy facility, an art gallery, a library, a 5,000 square foot social hall & an XRKADE interactive exer-gaming studio.
The Katz JCC operates the largest Jewish Day Camp in North America, with an annual, average enrollment of 1,600 campers. The JCC Camps is located in Medford, NJ and has exceptional facilities.
The Community Inclusion special needs department provides social and recreational activities ranging from a basketball league to Jewish holiday celebration for both children & adults with physical and mental disabilities.
The JCC Membership serves 14,000 members that range from infants, to children and teens, to active adults to the frail elderly.
Our nationally accredited Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Department serves over 300 children in full and half day programs from infants and toddlers to kindergarten students.
Just 4 Kids After School Program serves over 100 elementary and middle-school aged children from over 20 local schools.
JCC Festival of Arts, Books & Culture brings authors, entertainers and speakers to the community. Annual attendance is approximately 10,000 people.
Sun National Bank Junior Maccabi Basketball League serves 400 children, kindergarten through 9th grade.
Senior Congregate Meal Program serves over 100 hot kosher meals to seniors 5 days per week as well as a cure for loneliness.
Community Day serves families in the Delaware valley with a day of hands-on fun and entertainment including some health & safety workshops.
The Annual Sports Award Dinner attracts major professional athletes as speakers and recognizes local leaders.
