WHO WE ARE
Temple Am Echad is an open and affirming Reform congregation welcoming families, singles, persons with disabilities, Jews of all races, cultures, sexual orientations and gender expressions, as well as Jews-by-choice and interfaith families. It is our belief that the fabric of our Temple community will be enriched by your participation.
Temple Am Echad is a diverse, multi-generational community from different backgrounds and legacies. We work in warm partnership between our clergy and dedicated lay leadership. Ours is an environment of volunteerism, believing that Tikkun Olam should be our driving force. We provide educational and worship opportunities within the context of Reform Judaism and believe that music should be an integral component of our regular and enriched services.
Engagement & Community Director
MEMBERSHIP
- Be the primary contact for new/prospective families
- Provide initial contact with prospective and new members, offering information on services, dues, and programs.
- Foster meaningful relationships with congregants.
- Assist in planning strategies to welcome and integrate new members/families for growth and membership retention.
- Collaborate with the Financial Secretary for dues relief follow through.
OUTREACH
- Greet visitors warmly in person and by phone.
- Respond promptly and professionally to emails and phone inquiries.
- Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to cultivate a culture of warmth and inclusion.
PROGRAMMING
- Oversee the development and monitoring of a coordinated Temple calendar that will meet programmatic priorities and needs, and make the best use of resources, including staff and space.
- Assist in planning, providing logistical support and execution of special dinners and programs including but not limited to membership and fundraising events.
- Work with the Rabbi to schedule B’nai Mitzvah and all other life-cycle related dates.
- Provide logistical support for all Jewish rituals within the congregation (eg. Shabbat and Holidays)
LEADERSHIP
- Attend Admin and Board meetings and be responsible to communicate key points back to all other staff.
- Provide support to leadership in communication to the board of such things like minutes, agendas and general communication.
- Attend Congregational and Membership committee meetings, and other special Temple meetings, as needed.
- Serve as a resource to Temple committees and service arms (Men’s Club and Women of Am Echad) of the congregation.
- Collaborate with lay leadership in identifying and training new volunteer leaders.
MARKETING AND SOCIAL MEDIA
- Oversee the Temple’s social media presence by conceptualizing, creating and sharing engaging content (including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
- Utilize analytics and community feedback to inform communication efforts.
- Work with Social Media committee, other committees and service arms of the Temple.
- Collaborate with the Office Manager to make sure there is a consistent message and content between on-line mediums and other forms of communication like weekly blasts and Temple bulletin.
- Work with the Office Manager to maintain content for the Temple website.
CLERGY SUPPORT
- Assist the Rabbi where needed in planning and executing other events and programs as needed.
- Assist Rabbi and Cantor/Cantorial Soloist with the implementation of the B’nai Mitzvah program including schedule coordination of meetings, tutoring, rehearsals, etc.
RENTALS
- Oversee the marketing and rental of the facilities (for member and non-member events) including contracts, collections, and scheduling of staff.
OTHER
- This position is a 25 hour per week job.
- Physical presence for all or part of major events, certain holidays, milestone activities such as first and last day of Religious School, occasional other programs including Adult Ed, etc. to ensure things run smoothly and to interact with congregants is expected.
- Participation, in person or virtual, in approximately one evening meeting per week is expected.
- Working in person on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 when Religious School is in session is preferred but not required.
- Some portion of the remaining hours can be from home with prior approval.
This position is to function as part of a team to help run a synagogue that aims to live up to our mission and community values. The description above includes anticipated job responsibilities; but may entail additional duties as needed to help drive our values and fulfill our mission. This position is expected to work collaboratively with the Office Manager, Maintenance Director, Bookkeeper, Clergy, Religious School Educator and lay leadership to ensure smooth daily operations and successful meetings, services, programs and events.
Qualifications
- Background in hospitality, event planning, marketing and/or community outreach (or similar roles).
- Social media experience with proficiency in creating engaging content, using social media tools and event management software to analyze social media performance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for relationship building.
- Candidate should be warm, with the ability to interact effectively with individuals and groups of various ages and backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Basic website management skills, including content updates and basic troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of facility management.
- Strong event management skills with the ability to assist in the planning and execution of a variety of events, both large and small.
- Passion for community building within a religious or value- driven context with knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays and customs.
- Familiarity with programs such as ShulCloud, Canva, etc. is optional but not required.
Compensation
- Part-time, 25 hours per week, Hybrid
- Package/Salary Range: $40,000-$50,000
