Development Associate Columbia/Barnard Hillel Role Overview
Columbia/Barnard Hillel is seeking an organized, innovative, team-oriented professional with strong communication skills to serve as the Development Associate. The Development Associate will report to the Assistant Director of Development and work with the Chief of Staff, Executive Director, and volunteer leadership to implement Columbia/Barnard Hillel's development and communications plan, including meeting an annual fundraising goal of $2.6 million.
The Development Associate will support the Columbia/Barnard Hillel Development department with critical administrative tasks. As a core member of the Development team, the Development Associate will be included in strategic planning conversations and meetings, giving them the opportunity to engage with all facets of the fundraising and nonprofit space. We strongly encourage personal growth and will add portfolio responsibilities based on the Development Associate's interest areas.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and maintain accuracy of donor database, identifying, troubleshooting, and ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor information
- Process donations and acknowledgements
- Draft, produce, and coordinate direct mail/email solicitations
- Support young professional and student development efforts, helping to build a culture of philanthropy and pipeline of future major donors and lay leaders
- Conduct ongoing prospect research and identify major gift donors
- In close coordination with the Board of Directors, assist in planning and collating materials for board committee meetings
- Support department events, including but not limited to Summer Welcome Events, Family Weekend, the Annual Dinner, and Reunion
- Prepare stakeholder communications
- Maintain communications calendar
- Brainstorm ideas to expand our outreach
- Provide general administrative support to the Development department.
What You've Accomplished
- Bachelor's degree required and 1-3 years of post-college work experience
- Knowledge of and experience with donor database systems, communications and mass email platforms, and online giving technologies.

- Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.
