SALARY RANGE$27.00 - $28.00 per hour The Athletics Program Coordinator facilitates the day-to-day operation of all Athletics Department programing, specifically youth sport classes and leagues. This position assists with screening, training and evaluating seasonal youth sports coaches covering multiple sports. The Athletics Program Coordinator works closely with Athletics program management on planning, analysis, high customer service standards and coordination of daily departmental operations. This is a highly visible position and is the first point of contact for any parent(s) or patrons that have questions, need clarification or any general knowledge about athletic programs, including program philosophy, goals, methods, schedules, instructors/coaches, or any other relevant information.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Direct Program Support
- Program Oversight
- Assist management with training, evaluating, and providing direction to JCCSF coaches.
- Be present during practice hours and transitions
- Envision, plan, schedule, coordinate and ensure proper staffing and management of all coaches’ meetings, trainings, practices, programs, and special events.
- Maintain a consistent presence at all program events (weekend games, practices, closing ceremonies etc.) to ensure effective oversight and coach development and cultivation.
- Maintain consistent and effective communication with all coaches, enforcing expectations set by management and providing clear information/ direction in order to implement high quality curriculum.
- Help develop and be familiar with lesson plans each week and check in with coaches to ensure practice objectives are met
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Athletics department in the absence of Athletics management.
- Coordinate with outside leagues and organizations around gymnasium rentals and programming to ensure JCCSF Athletics department standards are being met consistently
- Drive JCCSF vehicle to off-site fields, deliver equipment, and ensure field/gym is prepared for practice each day
- Ensure storage remains neat and organized
- Ensure a positive and safe environment for all program participants, coaches, and families
- Coach/ Instructor Guidance & Direction
- Monitor and evaluate coach/ instructor effectiveness based on JCCSF Athletics program standards
- Assist in managing large groups of children and facilitate development of sport and life skills
- With direction from the Athletics Program Manager:
- Train and coach new and continuing sports coaches and instructors in the JCCSF Athletics Program model
- Create beginning of season training agendas
- Conduct bi-weekly coaches and instructor meetings
- Ensure that staff understand their responsibilities and management’s expectations, and that they are able to perform them
- Set up & take down class sections and equipment. Direct coaches/instructors on ways they can assist with set-up/tear-down
- Coach at least one team per season in all sports.
- Coach teams as needed when regular coaches are absent.
- Administrative Support
- Work in partnership with the Business Systems, Account Services, and Marketing teams to maintain the content of the Athletics CRM system and webpages.
- Prepare statistical reports and manage the collection and tracking of all program records, including registration and medical waiver documentation, through the CRM.
- Assist with coordination of uniform orders, photo days, and closing ceremonies as needed
- Work with professional staff to communicate to program participants and teams using online team management tool
- Update rosters, team pages, coaching assignments etc.
- Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service to program participants and families
- Handle incoming and outgoing electronic and telephone communications.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all program areas and actively communicate program information to all stakeholders, including clients and staff.
- Be knowledgeable and proficient in explaining the philosophy, curriculum, and operations of the Athletics department’s "Redefine The Score” model
- General
- Provide input to management regarding Athletics department’s coaches and instructors in support of performance evaluations.
- Additional duties as needed.
REQUIREMENTS- BS or BA degree, preferably in Sports Management, Recreation or Youth Development area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience working with children ages 3-13 years. Working knowledge of child development is a plus.
- Previous experience working in an athletics background, specifically with basketball and soccer programs.
- Energetic and outgoing personality, ability to work as part of a team and effectively engage and coordinate with various stakeholders (both staff and clients)
- Ability to multi-task, setting appropriate priorities, while ensuring that all deadlines are honored.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that varies based on the sports season, and which includes morning, evening, and weekend hours. Must be committed to being available on weekends with hours that will vary based on each week’s game schedule.
- Ability to transition smoothly between office role and direct program implementation.
- Excellent communication skills. Must be able to write detailed, articulate email communications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Salesforce experience a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR.
- Current CPR & First Aid certification preferred, or ability to obtain upon hire.
WORKING CONDITIONSWorking conditions include office work, as well as work hours onsite in the gymnasium of a large community center. Off-site duties to be performed at neighboring outdoor field spaces. Work duties include frequent contact with families and children, other community members, and staff members.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWalking and visually observing gymnasium and outdoor field spaces on a daily basis. Carry out functions of coaches and instructors when scheduled and on an as needed basis. Seated and/or standing work on a computer throughout the day. Lift/carry equipment and other items of weights up to 50 lbs.

SCHEDULEThis is a school-year position (September - May). Weekend hours and occasional evening hours required. Weekend hours vary based on games schedule and the sports season. Due to the nature of the team sports schedules, we cannot guarantee two consecutive days off each week. If interested, summer employment may be available through other JCCSF departments.
