Description
The Director of Camps and School-Age Services oversees the creation, promotion, staffing, curriculum, and administrative functioning of J Camp, the After-School Program and Vacation Days. The Director leads efforts to develop and deliver an annual array of J Camp, After-School and Vacation Day programs that are fresh and keep pace with current trends. The Director is a leader expected to grow programs, meet budget expectations, and work with stakeholders to develop and deliver a vision for School-Age programming that is compelling, creative and profitable.
Essential Functions
- Develop an attractive array of Camp, After-School and Vacation Days programs based on research of the most successful models and on evaluation of current and past programming.
- Develop and maintain effective communication with parents prior to and during each program season. This includes direct communication, newsletters, and social media.
- Work with volunteer Camp Committee to exchange insight and information.
- Manage the hiring and training process for all employees, including recruitment, interviews, hiring, scheduling, employee files, payroll and performance management.
- Manage and monitor enrollment for Camp, After-School and Vacation Days. Report key benchmarks and statistics to J leadership.
- Maintain Child Care licensing and American Camp Association Accreditation standards and policies.
- Develop and monitor Camp, After-School and Vacation Day budgets. Meet budgeted goals.
- Identify opportunities to cross-market programs. Work with other departments to deliver programs and grow J membership.
- Lead marketing efforts throughout the year, including working with the marketing department on an overall marketing plan for Camp, After-School and Vacation Days.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Education, Recreation or Related Field.
- 3-5 years experience in field of school-age programs. Experience leading large day camp programs preferred.
- Able to hire, manage, motivate, and coach staff members to achieve a high level of program creativity, quality, accountability and delivery.
- Able to create and manage budgets.
- Experience with inclusion strategies and supervising paraeducators.
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to establish self as a trusted and confident leader for employees and colleagues.
- Able to infuse programs with Jewish content so that Jewish culture, history, and traditions are incorporated into program activities.
- Able to form and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and staff.
- Able to project a positive outlook and a solutions-oriented work style.
- Basic knowledge of marketing and ability to use social media.
- Able to assist with “Big J” projects that occur outside of the Camps and School Age Programs department.
- Certified in First Aid, CPR, & Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting.
- Able to change work schedule as needed for the program, including working early mornings and evenings.

- Able to lift 40 pounds
- Able to walk indoor and outdoor spaces throughout our large Campus during a variety of weather conditions
- Able to work around young children w/ a variety of health issues
