SUMMARY:
The Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC Children’s Theatre Production Company (CTPC) is seeking a set designer/carpenter for the upcoming CTPC Jr/Teen production of Newsies Jr. that will perform on the Gordon Stage in January 2025.
The ideal candidate is a children’s or professional theatre technician who is willing to work closely with the Arts & Culture staff to help ensure the show design and process for the musical. Experience working with and for children is helpful, but not required. Having an offsite facility where pieces can be constructed and stored, is preferred.

COMMITMENT
- Pre-Production: Now - September 21
- Rehearsals: September 22 - January 6
- Rehearsal schedule: Sundays 1:30PM-4:30PM and Mondays 5:45PM-7:45 PM.
- Load in: January 10
- Tech Week: January 12-15
- Performances Slated: January 16, 19, & 20
- Strike: January 20 & 21
WHO YOU ARE:
- Able to work with the creative team staff during preproduction
- Experience and ability to create set renderings to be reviewed by the director and Gordon staff.
- Has extensive experience in safe and effective set design, theatre scenery, and set construction
- Has experience with the duties and leadership required for load in and tech week
- Able to assist and/or performs the construction, placement, and rigging of scenery for productions
- Able to perform general maintenance and upkeep of set pieces, if necessary
- Enjoys working as a team and thrives on collaboration with peers and colleagues
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Collaborates with the director on concepts and design
- Attends production meetings
- Builds functional and safe set pieces and significant props that require construction appropriate for this production
- Communicates and trains the production and creative team in the best use and movement of each piece
- Creates and/or shops for set props for theatre production
- Attending, directing, and performing the construction for load in and strike
PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle objects, tools, or controls and to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The workplace may be noisy at times. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $2,200+, dependent on experience. Discounts for classes available at the JCC are available dependent on hours worked.
