JCC Greater Boston is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor. This position is a great opportunity for someone who thrives on making a difference and has experience in teaching skills that enrich the lives of others. He/She/They will also assist with customer communications and administrative tasks. Swim instructors do not need to be experienced trainers. He/She/They must like children and be willing to guide them through a carefully designed program, boosting confidence and skills. The Aquatics Department teaches our swim instructors in the Lenny Krazelberg style and provides significant team support.
This position will pay $25 - $35/hr. as a starting salary. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours the employee will work, the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of every pool patron through education and attentiveness
- Teach swimmers (children and adults) using predesigned lessons. Sessions may be with individuals or groups. Lessons may require hands on work in the pool with young children
- Build swimmers' confidence, skills, and love of swimming
- Track skill development through record keeping
- Set up and break down equipment
- Enforce the rules and regulations of the pools consistently
- Maintain good working relationships with staff members, maintenance personnel, and administrative personnel
- Resolve member concerns in a professional manner or escalate them, as appropriate
- Develop professional relationships with members
- Attend all mandatory trainings and in-services
- Support JCC goals and objectives
- Other activities, as required by the organization
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Current/valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, with CPR, AED, and First Aid
- Must be 16 years of age or older at the time of hire
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC's discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Physical Requirements
Is able to:
Cognitive
- see, hear, and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
- make safety-related decisions
- communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone
- read, write, understand, and speak English
Physical
- work in a high temperature and high humidity environment for extended periods
- stand, sit and lay on the pool deck while moving their body in a way similar to how the participants in the water should (demonstrating)
- vision requirements include the ability to read routine and technical documents, use a computer, and answer a telephone
- stand, walk, sit, stoop, and kneel frequently
- be in the pool for 2+ hours
- maintain an appropriate level of fitness to competently perform all job-related tasks including the ability to 1) swim distances of 25 meters, 2) dive to pool depth of 6 feet or more, and 3) lift 50 pounds or more
- hold a child in the water
