Part-Time Billing Coordinator

Brooklyn Heights Synagogue (BHS) seeks a self-directed professional with strong financial experience and accounting background to fill the role of part-time Billing Coordinator for an active synagogue with over 525 member units. This position, under the supervision of the Executive Director handles accounts receivables and billing, accounts payable, and a variety of financial reports on a monthly basis. The days and hours for this position are flexible, but it is an in-person position for approximately 15-20 hours per week.

About the Position

The responsibilities for this position primarily include:

Accounts Receivable and Billing

Oversee the billing for the Synagogue’s membership database (ShulCloud) in coordination with our outside accounting firm/finance team. Create new charge types with the finance team to ensure proper linkage to the accounting system.
Process checks received into a bank deposit and apply the payments properly to member accounts; weekly review of all e-check deposits to ensure payments were applied appropriately.
Work closely with the Membership Director to update member records and profiles to ensure all information is accurate.
Work closely with the Director of Development to ensure that all new donations are recorded properly in member and non-member accounts. Create new pledge payments as necessary for a variety of sponsorships and other categories of donations.
Collaborate with other departments for preschool and religious school billings and billing adjustments to ensure accuracy.
Create billing statements for members and coordinate with preschool staff on non-member statements.
Accounts Payable
Develop an understanding of the budgeting process and the expense accounts and cost centers; work closely with the Executive Director to ensure proper invoicing.
Perform day-to-day invoice transaction processing using Bill.com, including verifying, classifying, and recording accounts payable into payable system.
Troubleshoot with vendors on any invoices unpaid.
Code the Amex credit card monthly transactions for proper allocation of expenses.

Reports

Produce monthly detailed membership reports and other budget reports as needed for the Executive Director.
Works closely with the Executive Director and finance team on yearly close of the books to produce reports as needed.
