Position Summary
The School Age Program Counselor facilitates both active and passive programming for children in grades Kindergarten through 5 th grade in a safe, secure, and fun environment.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain an orderly and safe environment at all times; specifically, this means:
- Never leave the children unattended
- Always escort the children to/from the various programming areas
- Be fully engaged with the children at all times; be real in your enthusiasm
- Help plan and fully implement lesson plans and activities
- Lead by example in treating others with respect
- Work effectively and professionally with co-workers
- Effectively communicate with parents as they drop off/pick up children; greet them when they arrive, acknowledge when they leave
- Verify that all children (irrespective of age) are signed in/out of program
- Bring all concerns or problems (from parents, members and/or staff) to the attention of the Director
- Keep the room neat and tidy after various activities have occurred and at the end of the day (and direct the children to assist)
- Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Minimum 1-2 years work-related experience preferred
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (training/certification will be provided as needed)
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Solid understanding of Jewish customs or traditions or the willingness to learn
- Proven ability to use good judgement in all situations
Interpersonal, Customer Service & Communication Skills
- Requires ability to effectively communicate JCC mission to staff, members. vendors and volunteers
- Requires high-level skills in customer service/member care
- Embrace and model the JCC Internal Service Standards of Respect, Gratitude, Communication, The Golden Rule, and Ownership/Accountability
- Exemplifies personal qualities of integrity, credibility and unwavering commitment to the JCC’s mission
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is fast-paced and requires high mobility, standing, walking (sometimes on uneven terrain), bending, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling (to be eye-level with a child). Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. Must have the visual, auditory and verbal ability to observe children and counselors and respond to appropriately and effectively in the event of an emergency.
