POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Arts and Education is responsible for all aspects of cultural arts, including the Ann Katz Festival of Books and Arts Festival, other special events, adult continuing education classes and the art gallery.
A primary responsibility of this and all other jobs at the JCC is to ensure by whatever rational and reasonable means necessary that each and every member, guest and visitor leaves the JCC feeling just a little better than when they arrived.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation
- Develop pertinent, interesting, value-added continuing education programming for adults
- Manage all aspects of the Ann Katz Festival of Books and Arts (a celebration of Jewish Life)
- Identify and coordinate all content for the annual Festival of Books event
- Manage all aspects of program implementation including logistics, facilitation, registration, volunteers, and evaluation
- Maintain understanding of priorities and desires of the various target audiences and refine offerings accordingly
- Develop and implement social justice initiatives and programming
Operation/Finance
- Supervise, manage, and mentor the Cultural Arts Coordinator
- Develop, maintain, and operate within annual department budget in collaboration with supervisor and finance team
- Develop annual fundraising plans for the Ann Katz Festival and for the overall department, including sales, program fees, donor solicitations, donor cultivation, and stewardship to grow festival and programming
Partnerships
- Lead the Arts and Education committee and develop a welcoming and effective group of volunteers
- Collaborate with local and national organizations to bring the highest quality programming to our audience and to strengthen our community
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications department to develop appropriate marketing and promotional materials (including photos, editorial content, scripts, etc.)
- Build relationships with artists and art organizations
- Work to recruit and schedule art exhibits, develop special programming around exhibits, and plan opening and/or closing receptions
- Comply with agency protocols, systems, and requirements to obtain approval for program implementation
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- BS/BA in LAS, Education, Arts, or related field
- 2-3 years of experience in adult programming
- 1-2 years of experience developing and working with volunteers
- Experience in using social media as a marketing and communication tool
- Experience in fundraising

- Strong understanding of Jewish customs and traditions with professional development and support
- Ability to commit to the mission of the JCC, the Jewish values, and core values that guide our community
- Strong social skills that will allow the incumbent to interact with a wide range of people and to collaborate with professionals from other departments and from outside the JCC to develop new and innovative programming
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Proven ability to develop enrichment and wellness programming which addresses the needs of the adult population
- Ability to develop and maintain a departmental budget and commitment to develop external funding support
Interpersonal, Customer Service & Communication Skills
- Requires ability to effectively communicate JCC mission to staff, members. vendors and volunteers
- Requires high-level skills in customer service/member care

The incumbent must be able to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment. This job requires high energy and the ability to develop programming that is new, innovative and addresses the needs of the adult population. The incumbent must be able to interact successfully with diverse groups, including JCC staff, volunteers, members of the board and greater community.
