SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Position Summary
The Senior Accountant serves one of Shared Business Services’ largest clients – the Mayerson Jewish Community Center (JCC). The Senior Accountant works as part of the service-delivery team, performing assigned accounting functions, and is empowered to identify and recommend improvements for the optimization of key accounting processes.
Building strong relationships with the Mayerson JCC and serving as a business partner to them is critical for success in this role.
The Senior Accountant functionally reports to the SBS Accounting & Finance Senior Manager. In a client service capacity, the Senior Accountant works in collaboration and partnership with SBS leadership as well as client management and staff.
Essential Functions
- Perform the monthly general ledger close, including completion of all required reconciliations and journal entries, both standard and periodic, to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements.
- Possess sense of urgency and strong attention to detail to ensure that all deadlines are met accurately and effectively.
- Produce and distribute monthly department financials and partner with budget owners to understand variances.
- Participate in the annual external audit by providing data gathering and documentation as requested.
- Interact with other members of the SBS team to ensure high quality service delivery, particularly in the areas of payroll, employee benefits, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Departmental reporting
- Identify process improvements and changes/enhancements to internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Support development team with grant applications and reports and monitors receipts associated with third party grants.
- Assist in budgets and forecasts, monitoring performance vs budget and issuing variance reports as applicable.
- Provides input to and support of strategic planning and analysis.
- Perform some transactional, day-to-day work as needed.
CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- 5+ years in a role providing comparable professional experience in accounting. Non-profit accounting experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong attention to detail and account reconciliation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communications.
- Experience in monthly financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Proficiency in Excel and the ability to work in financial and business systems, software, programs and application. Experience with Financial Edge (Blackbaud), Salesforce a plus.
- Ability to produce high quality work and exercise good judgment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and in teams.
